CULTURAL CALENDAR

 

  • January is the month of Christmas carol concerts by Poznan’s choirs. The famous Poznan Nightingales choir performs carols in early January in the main hall of Adam Mickiewicz University.

  • Concerts of the Poznan Musical Spring are organized every year in March.

  • In April are held Days of Ułan’s Soldiers – traditional polish horse cavalry whose make spectacular show in Cytadela Park.

  • World Press Photo: the Polish premiere of this international photo exhibition is held in Poznan in May, only three weeks after the presentation of the contest prize-winners in Amsterdam.

  • The Malta International Theatre Festival is held in June, with performers from all over the world. The traditional Saint Jan Fair takes place near the end of the month. 29th of June are celebrated also Name day of Saints Piotr&Paweł – city’s patrons.

  • From July to September, everyday at noon, and throughout the year on Saturday organ music concerts are given in the Baroque Parish Church.

  • The Biennale of Modern Dance and Modern Dance Workshops are held in August.

  • In September a dozen or so bakeries present their products during Holiday of Bread in the Old Market Square.

  • November 11, the feast day of St. Martin, is a celebration of the famous street’s patron saint: A parade is held along Sw. Marcin Street. The delicacy of this day are special crescent rolls with delicious almond and poppy-seed filling.

  • December is the month of Poznan’s Bethlehem with Christmas carols, traditional Polish home made products and nativity scene with real animals. The International Festival of Ice Sculptures takes place in The Old Market Square at the same time.

 

 

Poznan, the city worth living in

With its over thousand-year-old history, Poznan as well as its outskirts and adjacent areas, are a real tourist attraction. The history has left there a numerous sacral and secular monuments, which represent all architectural styles. Contemporary Poznan is also an important industrial, trade, cultural, sport, science and educational centre, one of the leading cities in the terms of developing local economies in Poland.


Cultural centre

Poznan is a cultural centre in the central and western part of Poland. You can find here numerous theatres, the Philharmonic Hall, a vast rage of choirs and orchestras as well as dozen museums, galleries and exhibition halls. Poznan is also a venue for a number of key music festivals and competitions, where a pace of cultural activities is marked by such events as: the MALTA International Theatre Festival, the International Theatre Festival ‘MASKI’ and the International Dance Theatre Festival.

 

Business

Poznan and the whole region of Wielkopolska, is famous for its traditionally well-run economy, high work discipline and economical approach to live. For many years now the most dynamically developing sector of economy in Poznan has been institutional business sector consisting of a good network of financial institutions, consulting companies, institutions associating entrepreneurs, higher educational institutions and schools with a business profile. Poznan is an unquestionable trade centre of Poland. Each year you can witness several trade fairs and exhibitions covering a variety of subject areas, in which exhibitors from over 60 countries take part. The Poznan International Trade Fairs are undoubtedly a leader among Polish exhibitors and traders.


The city for tourists

Poznan, with its numerous monuments, attracts tourists from all over the world. The most favoured one, which we can recommend, is the Renaissance Town Hall: Unique in Europe surrounded by tenement houses. Greens areas of Poznan such as the Morasko meteorite nature reserve and the Palm Houses, one of the biggest in Europe, with their adjacent beautiful park located just in the heart of the oldest residential area of Poznan, are also worth exploring. Lake Malta is an artificial lake in Poznan. There are a number of recreational attractions along the edge of the lake including: an artificial, round the year ski slope and a summer toboggan. The lake also has one of the most modern rowing venues in Europe - The Malta Regatta Course. In Poznan there are 10 stadiums and football pitches, 14 swimming pools, a hippodrome, a cinder-track, go-kart race centre, a target and field archery club, hundreds of tennis courts, a golf court and a modern Sports and Entertainment Hall-Arena.
